What is Your Need To Read?

So how would YOU define Your Need To Read? What makes reading a necessity to each of us. For me reading is my escape from reality, and that is actually my tag line on MyEclecticBookshelf. Take the time to escape reality, take the time to read. If I didn’t read, then I would have probably been admitted to the funny farm years ago. It’s my relaxation, it’s my way of finding new realms, it gets my brain working and thinking. I can release emotions and frustrations. Hubs and kidlets all know that if Momma has her Nook or a book in her hands unless you are broken, bleeding to death or puking up a lung then you leave me alone…#iamserious

Yes I am a Stay at home Mom, yes I am a military wife. Many of you sit there and scoff, well what kind of stress does she have, what frustrations does she deal with. She can sit around all day, eat bon bons and watch soap operas. Well I admit I do sit around a lot but a phone is usually glued to my ear, calling the electrician, setting up dr’s appts, dealing with bills that are wrong, making hair appts for the fam, etc. Bon bons..well if I ever find out how to make them at home cheap I may pop one in my mouth every now and then. Each day is full of things to do, I may not hop in my car and drive to an office to work, but I still work. The only difference is I don’t get a weekly paycheck. But my hubs does appreciate all I do and once in a while I might get paid in books :)

So my escape from all this is reading. That is what this blog is all about, Reading, Books, Authors, and hopefully in the near future some giveaways…yes I want to give YOU guys stuff!!

But first I want to know what does reading mean to you? How would you define Your Need to Read?

And I am feeling generous, I will pick one commenter at random (who answers the questions) to receive a free e-book if we make it over 10 comments! So go spread the word.

  1. My need to read is partly an escape from reality but it is also a way to learn things since I spend alot of time on buses. It also keeps me from vegging out in front of the TV every night.

  2. She~ Love it, yes reading does keep the knowledge base growing. No matter how old we get we should always be learning! Thanks for stopping by!

  3. Reading is also partly escape for me, but it's also a way to fill back up my writing tank. Reading helps relax me, spawns new ideas, and helps hone my craft by studying other writers--for me, reading and writing are intimately related!

  4. Escapism. Definitely that for me. I particularly enjoy books/series with a rich suite of characters that I can further explore past the pages in my own imagination. This is one of the reasons I love Tamora Pierce's Circle of Magic and Trebond books as well as Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time. Twilight also gave me several under utilized characters to explore, which led to writing. Escaping into my own worlds and characters isn't always as freeing as reading those created by others though.

  5. I know exactly how you feel. People assume as a stay at home mom, you have time to do their errands, babysit, etc. It's a hard job w/no $. But the rewards are fantastic. I reward myself w/books, also. For that time I'm reading, I don't worry about bills, kids starting school, husband's job. I just enjoy the moment. I need to read for the escape.
    Thanks for the question.

  6. Reading for me...I guess it's about escaping reality but I don't know...something much more, too.

Anyone who ever says a stay-at-home mom's life is EASY is CRAZY. lol My 'big fella' can barely handle weekends before he's ready to get back to work. We are super heroes. ;-)

  7. I learned geography by reading Harlequin Romances. I at least know what continent a place is.

  8. I am a writer, so reading is a no brainer for me. I enjoy discovering talented writers and occasionally get jealous and "wish I had written that":-) But really, the pure pleasure of escaping into a different world, where you meet the most amazing people and go to exotic places, or simply experience what can never be experienced in your own life, are all draw cards. Most of all, however, you read so that you can enhance your own writing by following along on the shoulders of giants who came before you. Thanks for asking. I think your idea for this blog is an awesome one!
